Ever since Oprah Winfrey gave a speech at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday that brought Hollywood’s liberal elites to their feet, rumors have been swirling that she is preparing to run for president against Donald Trump in 2020. Now, Trump has broken his silence about this, and he’s already letting Oprah know that he is not afraid of her at all.
“Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah,” Trump told reporters during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Freedom Daily reported that a spokesman for Trump’s White House said that he would gladly run against Oprah in the 2020 presidential race.
“We welcome the challenge, whether it be Oprah Winfrey or anybody else,” deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley. Adding that he did not know whether or not Trump had watched Oprah’s speech, Gidley said, “we welcome anybody at this point. We welcome all comers.”
He concluded by saying that Trump is “absolutely … going to run for president again.”
“Oprah will be a lot of fun,” Trump himself said, adding that, he knows her “very well” and appeared with his family on one of the final episodes of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
“I did one of her last shows. She had Donald Trump — this is before politics — her last week and she had Donald Trump and my family, it was very nice,” the president said, according to CNN. However, Trump added that he is not buying into her possible presidential run.
“I like Oprah, I don’t think she’s going to run,” he said, repeating, “I don’t think she’s going to run.”
Trump is likely not afraid of Oprah because her own past has already started to come back to haunt her. After her speech, a damning interview from 2013 surfaced in which Oprah said that older white Americans “just need to die.” During the interview, Oprah was asked if she thought racism has “gotten better” and if she thought the problem was solved.
“Of course problem is not solved. You know, as long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, problem’s not solved,” Oprah fired back. “As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation — I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the south — there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die.”
Her relevant comments start at the 2:20 mark:
Considering the fact that Oprah is on camera wishing death on millions of Americans who are still very much alive and able to vote, no wonder Trump is not afraid of her!
