Arizona Senator John McCain has spent the last year betraying the Republican Party by repeatedly speaking out against President Donald Trump. Now, this has come back to bite him in a huge way.
Tuscon.com reported that a desperate McCain took to Twitter on Monday morning to beg for more followers, saying that he was only 74 followers away from 3 million. Unfortunately for McCain, however, Twitter users immediately responded by unfollowing McCain, with him losing thousands of followers in just a few hours.
“We’re only 74 Twitter followers away from 3M – spread the word & help us reach this big milestone!” McCain tweeted out at 10:27 a.m. Monday morning.

The internet did indeed spread the word, but not in the way McCain was hoping. The hashtag #UnfollowMcCain went viral, and a mass unfollowing ensued. By 4:30, six hours after McCain’s original tweet was posted, he had lost more than 17,000 followers on Twitter.
McCain has backed himself into a corner, as Republicans can’t stand him for his treatment of Trump and for his take down of the Obamacare repeal. Meanwhile, Democrats have turned on McCain for his recent support of the GOP tax reform bill. This has left him with virtually no supporters left.
